"Kirtan is food for the spirit, a life raft of song...."

Embark on a journey into the multi-colored, many roomed mansions of the heart through the practice of Kirtan; or chanting the ecstatic songs of ancient India. Using call-and-response singing and storytelling, Grammy nominated recording artist Jai Uttal will invoke a space of prayer and heartfelt expression, joined by his good friend, tabla maestro and vocalist Daniel Paul.

"One of the most extraordinary spiritual chanters and ecstatic singers of our time. His music transforms the hearts of all who listen." --Jack Kornfield, Spirit Rock Center

"Jai is a shaman with wings big enough to carry all of us to ecstasy. Singing with him is a transcendental train to everywhere you ever wanted to go; all you have to do is sit there, surrender and let your song rock." --Gabrielle Roth

"Jai Uttal's chanting workshops are the best of the best. His music is one of the quickest ways to the center, it opens the heart and attunes the spine. I gave Jai's music to my wife Ondrea, it was the 1st time she shed spiritual tears."

--Stephen Levine, author of “A Gradual Awakening”

"Jai Uttal's chanting transports us to an exalted state of emotional transcendence."
--Daniel Goleman, author of "Emotional Intelligence

Jai Uttal, a sacred music composer, recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, and ecstatic vocalist, combines influences from India with influences from American rock and jazz, creating a stimulating and exotic multi-cultural fusion that is truly world spirit music. Having traveled extensively in India, where he met many beautiful saints and singers, Bhakti yoga became his personal path. Jai has been leading kirtans around the world for more than 30 years, creating a safe environment for people to open their hearts and voices. His sixth CD, "Mondo Rama", received a Grammy nomination, and he has since released five CDs for the Sounds True label entitled "Kirtan! The Art and Practice of Ecstatic Chant," "Music for Yoga and Other Joys...," “Loveland,” “Pranayama,” and “Dial M for Mantra.” www.jaiuttal.com

Tabla drummer and vocalist Daniel Paul earned his degree in the classical music of India from the Ali Akbar College of Music in 1984. Nine years of intense study under India's great masters, found Daniel on the teaching/performing staff of the College and as personal assistant to the legendary Maestro Khan. In 1987 Daniel received a Fulbright Research award for a year-long survey of the many styles of tabla drumming in India. After returning to settle in Hawaii's kirtan community, Daniel became Jai Uttal's principle accompanist, introducing new audiences to the tabla drums, one of the world's most unique instruments. www.tabladaniel.com
